Flag Raising Ceremony

Description: The UN General Assembly proclaimed the International Decade for the People of African Descent (2015-2024) by the Resolution (68/237) adopted on December 23, 2013 with the theme, “People of African descent: recognition, justice and development.” It formally acknowledges that people of African descent represent a distinct group whose rights must be promoted and protected. On February 1, 2021 the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association and the Town of Newmarket honours the Decade with a Flag Raising Ceremony* to: - promote respect, protection and fulfillment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms of people of African descent within the Town of Newmarket. - promote a greater knowledge of and respect for the diverse heritage, culture and contribution of people of African descent to the development of the community within Town of Newmarket. *Due to COVID-19 precautions, this event will be livestreamed via Instagram and Facebook. In person guests by invitation only. The duration of the flag raising is from February 1st to February 7th.
